The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) released a new set of guidelines that will overhaul the approval process for regulated products by making the procedure more transparent.

Applicants will now go through an approval process that takes between three to nine months and includes a report detailing the scientific risk assessment process and guidelines for suspending, restarting or extending an assessment.

The new guidelines do not apply to pesticide processes or to the reevaluation of food additives.

The EFSA’s guidelines are known to change frequently and require constant monitoring by applicants those involved in Europe’s food safety industry.
