How would one define Belgian art? According to Antonio Nardone, curator of the new exhibition ‘I Belgi. Barbari e Poeti’, which was previously presented at MACRO, Rome’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and is currently held at the Espace Vanderborght in Brussels until January 3rd, 2016, Belgian artists are both rebellious outsiders, ‘barbarians’, in the antique sense of the word, and poets who display a fascination for raw emotions, the irrational and the workings of the subconscious mind.
