European supermarket groups, Ahold and Delhaize agreed to merge creating a mega company of €26.07 billion combined value.
The companies said in a joint statement that the agreement is “a merger of equals” but the Dutch Ahold will hold 61 percent of the shares and Belgium’s Delhaize will hold the rest. The name of the new international food retailer will be Ahold Delhaize.
