Central Asia prepares for water-related conflicts


Former president of Slovenia and head of Global High Level Panel on Water and Peace Danilo Türk told New Europe, “Central Asian countries should explain their priorities to China under the One Belt-One Road initiative”.

GENEVA - A 15-member-state global group for water and peace has presented its report with recommendations for preventing water-related conflicts, including in Central Asia.

According to a study published by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, by 2050, more than half of the world's population (52%) will be living in regions where water is extremely scarce. The experts believe that water has already become a cause for serious international conflicts.
