CEC of Kazakhstan registers Tokayev as a presidential candidate

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan adopted a resolution to register Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev as a presidential candidate in election on 9 June.

According to the secretary of the CEC, Sabila Mustafina, Tokaev provided all the necessary documents for registration.

Mustafina recalled that Tokayev’s authorized representatives collected signatures of 315,910 citizens in all 17 regions of Kazakhstan. Of these, 312,653 were recognized as credible, although the required number of signatures is at least 118,140.

Based on the above, the CEC has registered Tokayev as a candidate for the presidency of Kazakhstan, Mustafina said.

At the briefing in Nur-Sultan the first deputy chairman of the party Nur Otan, Maulen Ashimbayev said that the current president of Kazakhstan, Tokayev, would not suspend the powers of the head of state during the election campaign.

According to him, there are no requirements for suspending the powers of the president in the law.

“Kassym-Zhomart Kemelovich Tokayev can, in accordance with the laws of our country, fully fulfill the functions of the President of Kazakhstan,” Ashimbaev said.

The election campaign will begin immediately after the end of the registration stage and will last until 00.00 on 8 June. Day of Silence will be on 8 June and the presidential elections in Kazakhstan will be held on June 9.
