The European Commission announced on 13 November a further €35 million in humanitarian aid for Africa’s Sahel region, in particular to humanitarian organisations in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.

As the people in the Sahel region are faced with armed conflicts, climatic shocks, food and nutrition shortages, and disease outbreaks, the funding will boost access to health care and education; it will help forcibly displaced people and host communities; and will support rapid crisis reaction.

This brings this year’s Union’s total contribution to humanitarian assistance in the Sahel at over €187 million.
