According to a Chinese web portal, NetEase, Apple plans to launch a mini iPad to compete with Windows 8-based tablet.

This new device is going on sale later this year.

The blog also says the smaller Apple tablet could range in price from $249 to $299, with six million devices ready to launch.

The latest reports follow on from an article published in The Korea Times a few weeks ago which claimed Samsung had started providing Apple with new LCD technology for smaller iPads.
