Bayer offers €52 billion to buy Monsanto

Bayer announced today that it offers €52 billion, in an all-cash offer, to purchase the US based bioengineering giant Monsanto, which faced worldwide protests on Saturday.

Before the announcement of the multi-billion offer, the media only speculated that Bayer would offer more than €35 billion to buy the well-known company but such a large sum was not expected. On 12 May, business-oriented US website, Bloomberg, reported that Bayer would submit a €35 billion bid for the US company.
