Azerbaijan imported 891 million cubic metres of gas from Russian in January-February 2006, up 10.3 percent year-on-year, a source at Azeri state oil company SOCAR said. Gas imports in February amounted to 418.6 million cubic metres, down nine percent year-on-year. Azerbaijan imports gas from Russia under a contract between SOCAR and Gazexport, a division of Gazprom. Azerbaijan began importing gas from Russia in late 2000 through the Mozdok-Kazi-Magomed pipeline. In 2001-2003 the republic bought gas from Itera, and since 2004 – from Gazexport. Gazexport supplied gas in 2005 at USD 60 per 1,000 cubic metres, and from 2006 – at USD 110.
