NATO wants to leave its Cold War headquarters but the cost of the new complex has been ballooning

The construction of NATO’s brand new €1 billion Brussels headquarters has run into serious financial difficulties, according to a report by Germany’s Spiegel magazine, which also says that the alliance’s outgoing Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, is trying to keep the problems under wraps. Completion of the project may require another quarter of a billion euros, which would mean it would cost more than triple what the developers originally said construction would require.
