Flushed with hops: Bruges builds a beer pipeline


Bruges, the most romantic city in Belgium, with its canals, medieval architecture and Renaissance belfry, is building a long underground beer pipeline.

This will allow the brewery situated in the centre of the city (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to  pump beer at a speed of 4,000 litres per hour, through a 3 km-long pipeline, to the bottling plant situated outside Bruges, thus drastically reducing the number of trucks that have to cross the city's cobbled streets every day.
