More than 3,700 migrants were rescued by vessels patrolling the Mediterranean in the last two days, according to a statement by the Italian coastguard on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, ships from several countries, including those taking part in the EU “Triton” mission, went to the aid of 18 different boats carrying 2,741 migrants on Monday. The next day a thousand more migrants were saved in six different rescue operations.
