A shocking number of Italian women have been the target of sexual harassment in their workplace over the last three years, according to a report by the Italian Statistical Service (ISTAT).

Released on Tuesday, the report suggests that as many as 8,8 million women – 15.4% of working Italian women – have dealt with sexual harassment in their workplace, including physical and verbal harassment, obscene phone calls, and indecent exposure.

Approximately 1.7 million suffer sexual blackmail to be hired, keep their jobs, or gain promotions during their working lives, the ISTAT report said.
